Heretics, Heroes, and Homemakers: An ACT-Inspired Reflection

In an age of cyber-everything, our brick-and-mortar home offers more than just a place to gather. And our current, ongoing renovations are not just about a physical facelift. Our church home can—and we hope will—say a great deal about us as a congregation. The Aesthetics Continuity Team has looked into our denominational origins—who we are and who we want to be—and is molding our space in the interest of not only being a welcoming place for free-thinkers, but also inspiring courage, expression, and community involvement, and gratitude. Can our humble space assist you in your spiritual journey? We think so. Let us convince you. And let us give you a glimpse into what is to come.

Deborah Sundermann is a lifelong Unitarian Universalist who has been a member of this church since 1996. At the turn of the century—before this building was born—she led the feasibility study that was part of the capital campaign that built this church. While she has worked as an attorney for nearly 38 years and is currently working for a federal judge, she is speaking today in her capacity as the Team Leader for the U2C3 Aesthetics Continuity Team. Her only qualifications for that job were a love of art and the audacity to raise her hand and volunteer.
