Matthew’s message will honor the ancestors and the past; discuss the efforts to ensure Juneteenth is given its appropriate gravitas as a travesty and a “holiday”; and discuss what we are called to do going forward to be true to its spirit.
Matthew Manning is the son of a pastor from Austin, Texas. He attended HBCU Howard University for undergrad followed by the University of Toledo College of Law with a full scholarship. Matt is a board president of the Coastal Bend Food Bank, board member of the Corpus Christi Young Lawyers Association, and was the District 12 Director of the Texas Young Lawyers Association until May 2024. He received the 2016 Criminal Defense Lawyer of the Year Award from the Coastal Bend Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, the 2020 LULAC Pillar of the Community Award, and the 2020 NAACP Presidential Award. Matt’s endeavors in social justice and civil rights have earned him the nickname “Manning of the People.”
