Bonhoeffer Moments with Kirk Newport

About the Service
Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a prominent German theologian in the 1930’s and 1940’s. Had it not been for the rise of fascism, his legacy would probably have remained confined to seminary and graduate level theology students. Alas, that was not to be. In recent years the term “Bonhoeffer Moment” has taken on a new meaning, one that we might want to reconsider given our current circumstances and his life’s work.

About our Speaker
Kirk Newport, the immediate past president of U2C3, was born in New Orleans and raised in California. After graduating from San Francisco State University, he served three years in the United States Army before building a career in hospital clinical laboratories and teaching clinical lab science at Del Mar College. A dedicated member of U2C3 since 1996, Kirk has served multiple terms on the Board, sung in the choir, and tended the church grounds with quiet devotion. He is an amateur cellist who enjoys most outdoor activities. Originally raised in the Methodist Church, Kirk now practices Buddhism, embodying the UU values of Pluralism, Interdependence, and Spiritual Transformation. He is the proud father of one daughter, three stepsons, and multiple grandchildren.
