A History of Non-Violence

To kick off November’s theme of Non-Violence, let’s get an overview of this idea throughout history, including our own Unitarian and Universalist history. From Universalist minister Adin Ballou and Unitarian Henry David Thoreau, who influenced Tolstoy and Gandhi, who in turn influenced Martin Luther King, Jr.’s practice of non-violence, we will examine this philosophy that has been a successful means of both protest and liberation.
