In reflecting on Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy, several of our UU values come into sharp focus. Equity and Justice speak directly to his lifelong work for dignity, fairness, and the dismantling of oppressive systems. Interdependence echoes his reminder that we are bound together in a “single garment of destiny,” responsible for one another’s well‑being. Transformation reflects the inner and outer change he called for—personal courage paired with collective action. Pluralism honors the diverse voices and experiences needed to build the Beloved Community he envisioned. And Generosity shows up in the compassion, patience, and willingness to show up for each other that sustained the movement.
