Meeting in the Middle: The Family Table in the Classroom

About our Speaker
Tess Cherry embraced this church on her first Sunday at the age of 3, when the RE activity was cookie decorating for Valentine’s Day. The church sustained her—physically and emotionally—through a childhood spent in and out of the hospital as she fought through three rounds of leukemia. The support she has received has come full circle, as she now serves U2C3 as Religious Exploration Coordinator. What she has learned here—most importantly, open-mindedness, kindness, and acceptance—has also become fundamental to her career.

She is certified as a middle and high school science teacher, with eight years of experience. Over that time, she discovered she has a big heart for our most challenged populations. Last year, her journey took her to the Student Support Center, where she teaches at-risk middle schoolers. The center employs a curriculum designed to promote emotional maturity, including coping skills and anger management—work she has found both trying and gratifying.

Join us as she shares how our schools can teach students to be better humans.
