Our Committees

Do you have a question about who takes care of something at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Corpus Christi? Do you have an idea for a project? Would you like to become more involved with the “workings” of the U2C3? Nearly everyone at U2C3 is involved with one or more of the committees listed here.

Aesthetics Committee Chair: George Clower (438-0884) The Aesthetics Committee seeks to ensure that the physical space available for worship, study, and socializing is as pleasant and attractive as possible.

Building Committee: Chair: Bill Randall(willran947@yahoo.com) Our building is kept sparkling clean by a crew of dedicated volunteers whose commitment helps U2C3 keep maintenance costs low. Do you have a couple of extra hours a month and a dust rag? the Building Committee could use your help!

Canvass Committee: Chair: Carrie Alexander (carriealexander@yahoo.com) Unfortunately, nothing comes free. Through cheerful, enthusiastic leadership, the Canvass Committee seeks to ensure that all the exciting projects planned by U2C3 will be funded.

Congregational Life (Membership): Chair: Marilyn Bremser (mbremser@stx.rr.com) and Reverend Philip Douglas (986-8855) Goals of the Congregational Life Committee include attracting, welcoming, and integrating new members into congregational life and promoting the growth of Unitarian Universalism in the Coastal Bend. The minister is a member of the Congregational Life Committee.

Endowment Committee “Help secure our church’s future!” is the motto of the Endowment Committee. Generous contributions from a small number of individuals kicked off this far-sighted income vehicle two years ago. Members of the Endowment Committee include Ed Grove, and John Kennedy.

Finance Committee Chair: Bill Bodrug (Treasurer) (949-6790) The Finance Committee, which includes the Treasurer, maintains the church’s financial records and takes care of the accounting needs.

Grounds Committee: Chair: Kirk Newport, (887-7569) The U2C3 is lucky to have highly motivated volunteers to man the mowers, trim trees and maintain the landscaping along Holly Road. The first phase of design and installation of the property front was done entirely by knowledgeable volunteers. Watch the U2C3 calendar for opportunities to help with landscaping needs!

Hospitality: Chair: Harley Doerfler (462-5134) Did someone say, “Hello” to you when you visited the U2C3? Perhaps it was a member of the Hospitality Committee. These are the friendly folks who greet you at the door and make sure there is plenty of coffee, iced tea, and lemonade to go with the treats served after Sunday service. They come early and stay after for clean-up duty. A revolving calendar helps all to have an “opportunity” to help, without feeling like it has become a “duty.” Smiling faces are always welcome!

Lay Ministry Chair: Agnes Maier (949-2810) Lay Ministry is parallel to, but distinct from, the Caring Committee in that its members “engage in conversation about the spiritual/religious aspects of (a person’s) reality and help that person accept what is usually an unpleasant reality. This is a way of allowing us to minister to each other – a practice as old as religion itself.”

Religious Education Committee Chair: Margaret Lawrence (law1607@aol.com) The Religious Education Committee works with the Director of Religious Education in planning and coordinating classes and activities for the young people of U2C3. Do you enjoy working with children? The Religious Education Committee would love to hear from you!

Social Action and Community Outreach Chair: David Bartlett (993-1323) The Social Action and Community Outreach (SACO) Committee plans events and serves as liaison between groups reaching into the community and church participants. The mission is to engage in activities that promote truth, justice and social conscience in our community and throughout the world. Habitat for Humanity, Beach Clean-up, Timons Ministry (food for the homeless), and various other options provide exciting opportunities for community outreach!

Worship Committee: Chair: Margaret Lucero (chinhouse8002@gmail.com) and Reverend Philip Douglas (986-8855) The Worship Committee aids the minister in planning the services and coordinating with the Music Director, Pianist, Contemporary Band or any of the several talents available in the church. The Worship Committee also schedules speakers for those Sundays when the minister is out of the pulpit.
