Special Congregational Meeting

Help the church realize thousands of $$$ without giving a dime from your own pocket.

All you have to do is come to the worship service on October 16th and vote.

So what’s the story?

The church has received a generous gift of land from the Estate of Robert R. Mullen, III, a former member of the church. It consists of 2.5 acres in Alice which are suitable for industrial use. Bill and Marilyn Bodrug, who both have extensive real estate experience, have examined the property and researched its value. The taxes on the property will cost the church about $500 per year and the Board has determined it would not be suitable for any church related activities. There is also no known prospect for substantial increase in value for the foreseeable future. Therefore, the Board of Trustees recommends that it be sold at the earliest opportunity.

Marilyn Bodrug has found a good realtor willing to sell the property for a flat $2,500 commission less a referral fee to her (a licensed broker) of $500 which she plans to give back to the church. The realtor’s name is Mike Blankenship, with Century 21.

The Board of Trustees would like to bring the sale of this real estate to the congregation for approval. A special meeting for this purpose will require the presence of 2/3 of the voting members. Approval of the sale will require 80% of the voting members present and absentee votes. That’s where you come in. If at all possible, please plan to attend the special meeting October 16 th .

The Board wants to answer any and all questions well before the scheduled vote. Bill and Marilyn Bodrug will also be available should you have further questions about the property and its proposed sale.

The motion will be that the church engage a realtor for a flat $2,500 fee to sell the 2.5 acres in Alice, Texas.

We UUs pride ourselves in being well informed before making decisions, which leads to healthy debate on any decision. But it is quite an undertaking to get 2/3 of us in the same place at the same time and get 80% of those to vote the same way.

So please take the time now to raise any issues you may have so that there will be no reason you are unready to vote “YES” or “NO” on October 16 th . If you are unable to attend, please inquire about absentee voting.
